Our History
Founded on a Vision of Maritime Excellence
In 1911, Mr. Francis Spring, Chairman of the Madras Port Trust, established what would become South India's most prestigious sailing institution. His vision was simple yet profound: to bring the joy of sailing to Chennai's shores.
Located at the Port of Chennai, right on the Bay of Bengal, RMYC has spent over a century nurturing sailors, hosting regattas, and building a community united by their love for the sea.
Today, we continue that legacy with the same passion that inspired our founding, now as a YAI-accredited training center producing the next generation of Indian sailors.
